You’ve probably already realised that our founder, Jerry Green, means a lot to us. He does, but perhaps the biggest credit should go to Rusty, the spaniel we celebrate in our logo, a faithful and loving companion to Jerry Green.
In 1961, Rusty’s passing inspired his owner to set up a charity to rescue and rehome stray and unwanted dogs, with the aim of revolutionising the quality of life provided to all rescue dogs.
Jerry Green believed that far too many dogs were being put to sleep unnecessarily. This belief has driven the charity’s activities since the creation of its first rescue centre in Broughton, North Lincolnshire, still in operation today.
Jerry Green was passionate about sharing the good practices he established, in order to influence other animal welfare charities. He campaigned and educated to promote the humane treatment of all dogs.
