Rocky’s Happy Tail: From Pain and Uncertainty to Loving Forever Home

As a SharPei Cross, Rocky was prone to painful skin allergies. His ears and deep facial folds were swollen and inflamed, while excess skin around his eyes caused his eyelashes to rub against the surface of his eyes – a condition known as entropion.  

His discomfort made everyday care difficult. Even seeing a cleaning wipe could make Rocky anxious, causing him to become tense and restless; making it challenging for the team to provide the essential care he needed. 

Rocky needed time to feel safe, alongside a team who could understand his individual needs and work at a pace he could cope with. 

Finding the right home is at the heart of Jerry Green Dog Rescue’s Meet&Match® process. Our welfare team considers the individual needs, personality and lifestyle of every dog and potential adopter, making sure they are ready for adopting a rescue dog.   

Finding the right match for Rocky was particularly important. His new family needed to understand his medical needs and be able to continue the care that had helped him feel so much better. 

Thankfully, his perfect match was just around the corner.  

Once Rocky moved into his new home, he quickly settled into family life. 

The corrective eye surgery funded by our supporters also gave Rocky relief from the pain caused by his entropion, allowing him to enjoy the things he had once found difficult. 

Today, Rocky loves long walks filled with sniffing adventures, tearing his cuddly toys to pieces and curling up beside his family for plenty of cuddles. 

The rescue dog who once arrived feeling sore and overwhelmed is now enjoying the happy, comfortable life he had been waiting for. 

As Hayley says: “He is as happy as Larry now. He holds a special place with all of us and we wouldn’t be without him.”
