What’s the difference between fostering a dog and adopting a dog?
Fostering provides a temporary home while a dog waits for adoption. When you adopt, you make a lifelong commitment and become the dog’s permanent owner.
How long do you foster a rescue dog for?
Every foster placement is different. Some dogs stay for a few weeks, while others may need a foster home for longer depending on their individual needs and how quickly they’re matched with a new family.
Do I need experience to become a dog foster carer?
Not at all. Our welfare team are on hand to support you every step of the way and answer any questions that you may have.
Do I have to pay for a foster dog’s food or veterinary care?
No, becoming a dog foster carer will be at no cost to yourself. Jerry Green Dog Rescue provides your foster dog’s food, bedding, toys and any veterinary treatment they need during their stay.
Can I foster a dog if I already have pets?
Yes, our team will match potential foster dogs to the right homes to ensure a positive experience for all.
Can I choose which dog I foster?
Our welfare team will always aim to match you with a dog that suits your home, experience and lifestyle, ensuring the best outcome for both you and the dog.
Can fostering a dog lead to adoption?
While the goal is to help dogs find the right forever home, there are occasions where foster carers decide to adopt their foster dog if it’s the right match for everyone involved.
Is fostering a rescue dog rewarding?
Many foster carers describe it as one of the most rewarding ways to support dogs in need. Knowing you’ve helped a dog prepare for their forever home can be incredibly fulfilling.
