About me
Hi, I’m Oakley. I’m a young Border Collie boy looking for someone very special to help me discover the big, wide world. I haven’t had the easiest start to life, and because of that, so many things that other dogs might take for granted are completely new to me. I’m still learning what the world is all about, and I need a patient, understanding person who will give me the time and space to experience everything at my own pace.
Walking on a lead is still something I’m learning about, and I’m figuring out what all the different sights, sounds and experiences of everyday life are about. New places, new experiences and unfamiliar situations can feel like a lot, so I need someone who understands that I can’t simply be thrown into the world and expected to cope. I need gentle guidance, positive training, consistency and lots of reassurance from someone who understands Border Collies and knows just how sensitive, intelligent and special they can be.
I need an experienced Border Collie owner or someone who is genuinely Border Collie-savvy and understands the breed. My new family will need to be willing to work with me patiently, celebrate the little victories and allow my confidence to grow naturally rather than rushing me. A standard, busy family home would not be suitable for me, although I may potentially be able to live with children who are savvy with the breed, providing the right match is found.
I may also be able to live with another dog, pending a successful introduction and making sure we get along well. A suitable canine companion could potentially be a lovely friend for me, but this would need to be carefully considered based on personalities and how comfortable I am.
One thing I already know how to do incredibly well is love. I am a loving boy, and when I’m unsure or worried, I seek reassurance through affection and being close to my people. I want to feel safe, understood and loved, and once I learn that I can trust you, I have so much love to give in return. I’m a sweet boy with so much potential waiting to shine through.
I’m also an intelligent boy, and my clever brain is going to need plenty to keep it occupied. Once I have gained some confidence, I would love to learn new things, take part in training and have activities that allow me to use my mind. I’m not going to be happy simply being a couch potato, and my future family will need to enjoy giving me appropriate mental stimulation and helping me develop into the clever, confident boy I have the potential to become.
My new home will also need to understand that my leaving hours will need to be built up gradually. I’m not ready to be expected to cope with long periods alone, and I will need someone who can take this at my pace and teach me that being away from my people is safe and okay.
I know I may sound like I’m going to need a little extra time and understanding, but I promise you, I am worth it. I’m not asking for someone perfect; I’m asking for someone patient. Someone who understands that progress won’t always be a straight line, who will celebrate the smallest achievements and who will never give up on me when I find something difficult. With the right person, the right training, plenty of patience and, most importantly, lots of love, I could grow into the most wonderful companion.
I am a loving, clever and very special boy who simply needs the opportunity to discover what life can be. I need someone to believe in me, teach me that the world is a safe and wonderful place, and give me the time I need to find my confidence.
I’m ready to start the next chapter of my life. All I need is someone willing to take that journey with me. ❤️🐾
