Our very own Tilly Saunders has been training dogs for over 4 years and is highly experienced in dog training and socialisation!

In the piece below, Tilly shares in her own words, the importance of teaching your dog recall skills…

One of the most important things to 90% of owners is their dog coming back to them when called.

Whether this be from the garden or out in the park, it is a great thing to be able to let your dog off their lead to run, explore and see their outdoor world. After all, the most important thing in a dog’s day is their walks, so let’s make it as exciting and enjoyable as we possibly can!

If you are struggling with your dog coming back to you when called, my 4 pointers would be:

  1. If your dog doesn’t come back to you when called, do not get frustrated with your dog and tell them off or persistently call.

  2. Get yourself a 10 or 20-metre-long line.

  3. Get yourself some really meaty and smelly treats, something like hotdog or chicken!

  4. Call them and when they come to you, reward them with a treat!
