Teddy is a larger than life crossbreed who was rescued by Lisa and Rich in June 2019 after spending several months in rescue at the East Yorkshire centre.

Teddy was originally handed in as he was too much to handle in the home, at just 6 months old. He was a destructive, mouthy, highly strung, adolescent young dog – but goodness he was a love bug (hence his name)!

Spending a long time in kennels can take its toll on any dog, but for Ted he was in kennels at the height of his learning periods, so he learned some inappropriate behaviours out of boredom. We knew that whoever took Ted on would have a challenge with him, and would need ongoing support.

When Ted got home, our first port of call was basic obedience, focus work and settle! Teaching him that he can go away to relax, he doesn’t need to be 100 miles per hour, 24/7. We started with basic training to teach ted self-control exercises, as one of his main issues was controlling his impulses and thinking before he acts. We did some clicker training and used lots of positive reinforcement as Teddy thrives from being told what a good boy he is!

Week by week, Lisa and Rich saw huge improvements in Ted’s behaviours, he began to interact with dogs on walks and began to come to the centres social walks where he was off his lead burning lots of energy both physically and mentally. He was also learning lots in his weekly 1-2-1 sessions.

Ted now walks lovely on his lead, he is calm, content and relaxed at home and doesn’t show any of the behaviours that he did when he was originally adopted. He is an outstanding member of society and continues to improve and learn new things day by day, and he will soon be on his way to earning his bronze certificate in our Brilliant Dog Awards classes.

Lisa and Rich said: "We do not know what we would have done without the help and support of all the staff at Jerry Green. Without the knowledge from Tilly in our weekly sessions, we really don’t know how Ted would have adjusted to home life after kennels, or how we would have managed him."
