Position: Dog Groomer

Hours: 40 hours per week (including weekends)

The Jerry Green Dog Rescue North Lincolnshire Centre is looking for a full-time Dog Groomer, to develop the service to our local community, whilst maintaining high standards and excellent reputation of our existing services.

Main purpose of the job: 

  • To support the Centre Manager to promote the mission, vision and values of the organisation, ensuring that the very highest standard of dog grooming is delivered, and every opportunity to promote the service is exploited, maximising income opportunities. Ensure all dogs are cared for as outlined in our Dog care policies, to the high standards expected of an Animal Welfare Organisation.
  • To deliver excellent customer service and implement each dogs grooming requirements.
  • To educate dog owners and the general public in the care and welfare of their dogs and regionally promote services.
  • Attend any recommended training programme/CPD.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Maintain excellent welfare for all dogs who attend for grooming, ensuring that dogs are cared for appropriately during their appointment.
  • Assist customers to select the correct grooming package, appropriate to their dogs needs by providing accurate and relevant information and advice, delivering the chosen package appropriately.
  • Ensure the highest standards of customer care are delivered to all centre visitors and contacts by presenting a professional and friendly approach both face to face and on the telephone and all other communication methods including social media.
  • To positively promote the benefits of our dog grooming service, our shop goods and our other enterprise opportunities are positively promoted to add value to the customer experience, in addition maximise trade and supporter opportunities.
  • Ensure excellent salon presentation, ensure equipment is maintained and high standards are kept through cleanliness, safety and good standards of housekeeping, following the appropriate risk assessments and control sheets where necessary.
  • To take responsibility for asking for direct support, be that for funds through Regular Individual Giving, one-off donations, goods and services, or voluntary and supporter opportunities.  
  • Maintain accurate grooming records to include customer contact details, details of the groomed dog, behaviour and veterinary information as well as ensuring that all customer information is shared with appropriate internal departments, within GDPR guidelines.
  • Be active in raising our profile and take a proactive approach with fundraising, publicity and education events and activities Support and all that you do. Working with the Centre Manager to look at the best ways to market the brand and service supported by the Support Care and Marketing Teams.
  • Support and nurture our unpaid workforce in the centre, ensuring they feel part of the team and have access to your knowledge and experience to aid them in their volunteering role.
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety requirements, taking personal responsibility for your safety, and the safety of others, reporting any concerns and incidents to the Centre Manager or the Boarding Supervisor.
  • Undertake training as required, internally or externally as required, and take proactive approach to personal CPD. Help to train and monitor volunteers.
  • Interface with media as required.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as required.

Person specification:

 Qualifications/training/experience:

  • Qualified to National Diploma, Level 3 or equivalent in Dog Grooming.
  • Paid or voluntary experience of working in a dog related environment or equivalent.
  • Preferable experience working in a fast paced grooming environment where you have undertaken a hands on approach.

 Dog grooming experience:

  • Understands and implements the dog grooming, standards and procedures, treating each person and each dog as an individual, recognizing their needs and adapting our approach to ensure those needs are met.
  • Ability to complete a groom from start to finish on the majority of breeds to a high standard.
  • Sound dog assessment to understand their behaviours and needs and makes a contribution to creating a relaxed, stress free environment.
  • Looks after facilities to ensure they are presentable, safe and fit for purpose for visitors, staff and dogs alike.
  • Ability to work flexibly, willing to work beyond contracted hours to meet the needs of the service, where necessary with ability to maintain a suitable level of fitness.

 Administration and operations:

  • Ability to use IT to keep accurate dog grooming records, finances, salon diary.
  • Works to strict health and safety procedures, taking personal accountability for safety.
  • Motivated to engage and participate in fundraising activities, events and in educational and awareness raising, events and activities.
  • Knowledge of implementing social media responsibility.
  • Team working with work mates and volunteers.

 Profile and reputation:

  • Able to drive business within the salon, assess and understand the desires of the public who visit us.
  • Good communication skills to offer good customer care promoting a positive, helpful, honest and friendly environment to ensure they leave with a great impression.
  • Ability to make sales from fundraising tickets to shop sales and services.
  • Able to successfully manage annual leave and sickness records to minimise impact on trade and outstanding customer service.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence.
