***Our Statement about XL Bully type dogs***

The UK Government have announced that XL Bully type dogs have been added to the banned breeds lists, with legislation coming into effect from 31 December 2023, and the requirement to complete registration for a certificate of exemption by 31 January 2024.

If you own an XL Bully type dog, we understand how worrying and upsetting this news may be for you and we urge you to take immediate action to ensure you understand the legislation and are able to take the required actions within the timescales.

It is important that you read the government legislation carefully, which can be found here:  https://lnkd.in/eZ2xfuir and if you’re unsure if your dog will be classified under the legislation, it’s important to check as soon as possible.

At Jerry Green Dog Rescue, we’re here to support owners through this unsettling time. We have developed a Muzzle Training Guide, which uses positive reinforcement and lots of treats to help you and your dog learn that a muzzle can be used in an easy, stress-free way. It’s completely free to request via post and is linked below. Our expert team are also on hand during our centre opening hours to answer any questions you have about owning an XL Bully type dog. Please contact them directly via phone or email on the details below.

As a rehoming charity, we’re still interpreting the guidelines to determine how it will affect dogs currently in our care. We’re unable to issue any further comment in regards to this.
