Pooches at Jerry Green Dog Rescue’s South Lincolnshire centre are enjoying playtime with a difference this summer thanks to the installation of a brand new sand pit.

This fantastic enrichment activity encourages dogs to carry out natural behaviours such as digging and foraging, plus offers an opportunity for scent work and play. In addition to ensuring oodles of fun for the charity’s rescue dogs, the sand pit can be booked for a fee by visitors as part of the centre’s paddock and agility hire facilities.

The sand pit was funded by a generous donation of £30,000 made by long-term supporters John and Victoria Taylor through their Trust, the PawPrint Charitable Trust. But their gift will also facilitate a wider improvement project for the charity’s South Lincolnshire centre, including extension of the site’s car park to accommodate future events. New paving across grassed areas will make access easier for staff, visitors and dogs in the winter months and a visual and sound barrier will minimise noise and over-stimulation for dogs in kennels closest to the car park.

Centre Manager Jo Hickson said: “We would like to express our thanks and gratitude to John and Victoria for their very generous donation and ongoing support, both personally and through The PawPrint Charitable Trust.

“We are thrilled that this funding will enable us to carry out much-needed improvements to our centre, plus the addition of the sand pit, which has already proved to be a huge hit with the dogs!”

A former trustee of Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Victoria Taylor is best known as one of the innovators behind Meet&Match®, the charity’s pioneering method of rehoming. The PawPrint Charitable Trust, under the chairmanship of John Taylor, has supported Jerry Green Dog Rescue projects for many years and gave its name to South Lincolnshire’s PawPrint Pavilion, a purpose-built, versatile training and events venue.
