Emma is a little terrier crossbreed that had a lot of skin issues and was also very nervous of new people. When she arrived at our South Lincolnshire Centre she was very sore and itchy. Our team took her straight to the vets for an allergy test which revealed that she was allergic to most foods and also a lot of grasses. Due to her timid nature one of our dog welfare assistants started to foster her overnight to help her with her socialisation around new people and new environments. She quickly started to learn that the world was not a scary place and started to come out of her shell.  The team set about trying to find Emma a new forever home, but with such severe allergies and the possibility that she could be on medication for life, Emma found herself waiting much longer for that perfect match to arrive.

Luckily they did arrive in the form of a previous adopter who had adopted another dog from us with allergies and was happy to manage this for her. Due to her nervous nature it took Emma a few attempts and lots of home visits to feel comfortable around the other dogs and new family members. However luckily for Emma both the Jerry Green team and her new family didn’t give up hope and Emma finally learnt to trust her new home, coming for cuddles with her new mum and dad and playing with her new dog siblings, so the family went ahead with the adoption.

We are so proud that our rehoming process is flexible enough to ensure that every dog is treated as an individual and given the time and resources to take things at their pace.
