Support our Community Teams

Assist in supporting the community team. Helping us to deliver community support to dogs, their owners and our foster carers. This role is varied, flexible and can work around your current commitments.

You will be helping dogs in the community, this could include supporting with medical appointments, medication collection/delivery and within the community rehoming function.

Why we need you

Supporting in the community is a hugely rewarding role.  You will have hands on experience with dogs, helping where and when they need us most.

This is a key role as first impressions and a friendly welcome to everyone who contacts Jerry Green Dog Rescue is important.

What will you be doing?

It can range from various tasks, and can include

  • Transportation of dogs.
  • General transportation, such as medication/food etc.
  • Supporting the Community Manager with reaching more dogs in need of our support.
  • This role is super flexible to suit you and where possible we will include interaction with our dogs.

What skills and attributes do I need?

Dog need support for many reasons, some with complex needs.  We therefore do kindly ask that volunteers who wish to have contact with the dogs have first three attributes listed below.

  • You must be able to volunteer alone, or volunteer as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills, including using communicating with the wider team via telephone in line with our lone working policies
  • Have experience of dog behaviour
  • You will enjoy talking to people and building rapport.
  • Be empathetic and non-judgemental when dealing with customers who have come to hand their dogs into rescue, or are enquiring about doing so.
  • The ability to be polite and courteous at all times.
  • To be honest, reliable and punctual.
  • You must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Have a commitment to our core principles and procedures which will be explained.
  • Have own transport.

How much time do I need to commit?

Flexible to the needs of the community, any time you kindly give will be appreciated.

 What support will I be given?

  • You will go through a full induction to the role
  • We will provide you with continuous support and guidance.
