Debbie first started volunteering at her children’s school which she enjoyed. Recognising the value of volunteering along with her great love of dogs, she started to search for another opportunity where she could help. She found Jerry Green Dog Rescue and has immersed herself in the life of the East Yorkshire centre ever since.

Volunteering can build your confidence

Having been a stay-at-home Mum for the previous 10 years, she felt her confidence was low. Volunteering has proved to be very rewarding, as it has not only made a real difference to the dog’s lives while they are at the centre, but she has also made lots of new friends along the way. Combining a busy family life with 3 days volunteering a week, with more time if she is asked to help requires great organization and has also helped her regain her confidence and feelings of self-worth.

After undertaking many of the roles in her time in rescue, she has recently taken on the new role of Team Leader which she is really enjoying. It’s an ideal role as she enjoys meeting people and can utilise skills that she has developed in the past when she ran her own business. She now feels valued, fulfilled and part of a team and recommends volunteering to everyone.

We love the fact that volunteering has renewed Debbie’s confidence and self-esteem and that we have benefitted from her skills and enthusiasm.

We have a lot of volunteer roles which you can find here.
