Charity Store Collections & Delivery Driver Why we need you? Running a successful Jerry Green Dog Rescue store requires a great team of enthusiastic and passionate volunteers and you could be part of it! Our volunteers come from a diverse range of backgrounds and bring a wide variety of skills to the organisation. They come together to generate vital funds, that enables us to continue our work in finding forever homes for the dogs in our care. What's involved? Safely driving the Jerry Green Dog Rescue (JGDR) vans during the collection and delivery or disposal of donated items in accordance with the Highway Code Representing JGDR in a courteous, professional and considerate manner at all times, especially whilst on the road Carrying out routine checks on the vans at the start of each shift and taking responsibility for the safety and maintenance of the van during the shift. This includes reporting any incidents or accidents to self or others and any damage caused to the vans Taking responsibility to ensure all relevant paperwork is completed and handed over to the Shop Manager before leaving the shift and for ensuring that delivery and collection notes are signed and handed to the right people Providing any Drivers Assistant with up to date progress reports, to ensure changes to planned timings are relayed promptly Assisting with other shift duties, including planning routes, loading and unloading vans Undertaking a driver’s awareness assessment if requested to do so and any necessary training in manual handling and health and safety Assist with the maintenance of the vans and carry out a regular cleaning schedule Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in support of the main purpose of the role Working as part of a team and making new friends What skills and attributes do I need? You will have good communication and interpersonal skills The ability to get along with people and work as part of a team For insurance purposes you must be over 25 years old and have held a full clean manual driving licence for at least one year Confidence and experience driving medium sized vans is desirable, along with the ability to follow procedures on your own initiative and when under pressure Sound map reading skills and/or the ability to use a Sat Navigation system is required You will need to possess basic numeracy and literacy skills You must be able to maintain confidentiality A commitment to our core principles and procedures This role will require good fitness levels as some lifting will be required How much time do I need to commit? Any time you can commit is valuable to us. However, we would generally ask you to consider at least one of these shifts per week. This shift could take up to 7 hours, dependent on the van route. You will go through a full induction to the role You will go through a risk assessment to ensure a safe and healthy working environment You will be trained in every aspect of your role, including our equality and diversity policies We will provide you with continuous support and guidance in order that you feel confident in the role What benefits can I expect?
