Position: Charity Retail Assistant - Cross Site Supervisor

Hours: 20 hours per week (additional hours may be available)

Main Purpose of the Job:

 To provide effective assistance to the management in the efficient running of our retail shops and sales opportunities. To be responsible for assisting the Retail Manager in all activities at the Shops, such as Volunteer recruitment, Online Sales and training, maintaining stock levels, manage the donation station, sorting and pricing, stock movement and visual merchandising and ensuring collection of donated goods in a timely fashion. The successful candidate will ensure the charity retail provision remains functioning in times of sickness, annual leave and authorised absence.  It will be the role of the cross-site supervisor to ensure daily sales targets are met, recorded and reported to the manager when in control of retail sites.

It is essential the individual can transport themselves within the Lincolnshire area and is open to providing distance support when required. IT skills are required to maintain the professional standards of reporting in place at all of our outlets.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Staffing

 To assist the Retail Managers in working with the Volunteer Task Force to recruit, train and retain volunteers.

  • To assist the manager to manage and motivate volunteers ensuring the smooth running of the shop and implement new ideas with a positive attitude.
  • To assist the manager in maintaining a weekly rota and to help to delegate shop tasks to the volunteers according to their strengths.
  • Where appropriate, lead the DBS process for all successful volunteers.

Shop premises

  • To assist in the responsibility for the shop premises, ensuring they are clean, safe, secure and tidy.
  • To attend mandatory updates on fire and safety, moving and handling etc. as appropriate to the role.
  • To be aware of the responsibilities placed on employees under the Health and Safety at Work Act, to maintain a safe environment for employees and visitors.
  • To bring concerns to the attention of the Manager.

Trading hours

 Opening the shops and ensuring trading hours are adhered to, and running of the shop in the Managers absence.

  • To adhere to a rota, set by the Manager, that ensures that maximum trading time and cover is achieved and be flexible with your time to cover times required to maximise trading hours.
  • **This role may be subject to overtime hours to cover periods of sickness, absence and annual leave.

Budgets

  • To help to achieve sales targets and run a cost effective operation against set budgets.
  • To recognise and confer with the Manager on any additional opportunities for income and reductions in shop costs.

Stock & Pricing

 To assist in operating an effective stock management system to realise the maximum profit possible from donated goods, to include annual inventory.

  • To assist in the management of the donation station sorting and pricing, stock movement.
  • Price stock according to JGDR pricing structure
  • To be aware that certain donated goods may be of considerable value and to secure these goods until they have been professionally valued.
  • To hold sales, customer deals and manage returns professionally.
  • To support the effective running of the ecommerce platform, including sales on social media sites and online platforms.

Administration and Financial Procedures

 To help to maintain an accurate and scrupulously honest account of the shops financial position.

  • To help to reconcile the takings on a daily basis, helping to bank all cash every other day where possible and to help to ensure strict security measures are implemented for unbanked cash at weekends and holiday periods.
  • To encourage and sign up donors to our Gift Aid scheme and ensure your team does the same.
  • To ensure that all returns and paperwork are submitted to Central Office accurately and in appropriate timescales.

Social Media Marketing and Online Sales

  • To help to run social media campaigns to assist sales and online sales

Regulations

 To comply with all current legislation and JGDR policies. This includes the health and safety policy and retail law.

Promotion of JGDR

 Under the leadership of JGDR, help to use the shop as a vehicle to promote our core principles to volunteers and customers using the communication materials provided and one’s own empathy for the cause.

  • To help to plan and implement the successful launch of the first JGDR charity retail enterprise.

Visual Merchandising

 To have some fun and use your creativity, flair and innovation to ensure that goods are presented in a way that displays a genuinely high standard and quality which customers might expect from Jerry Green Dog Rescue shops.

  • To help to maintain display stock in the shop to a high standard including regularly changing themed window displays.

Personal Development & CPD

 To enable the Manager to hold regular meetings with the Income Generation Manager to discuss ways of improving shop sales and how we may utilise the many qualities of willing volunteers in other activities.

  • To attend any meetings, training or conference that has relevance to your position and your day to day work including membership, engagement with and CDP via the Charity Retail Association.
