Brenda’s connection with Jerry Green Dog Rescue began around 10 years ago when she adopted a dog from the Nottinghamshire centre. He had been neglected by his previous owner, but after several months of love and care he blossomed into an extremely handsome dog and was devoted to his new family. Sadly he fell victim to a twisted gut and despite emergency surgery he couldn't be saved.

From that moment on Brenda decided that when she was no longer working, she would volunteer in order to give other dogs at the rescue some of that love and care she had devoted to her own beloved dog that had obviously made such a difference. It was her way of giving something back to the wonderful charity that had rescued her own dog.

Not your usual Monday morning feeling

For more than 5 years Brenda has given up every Monday morning to walk the lovely dogs at the centre. She heartily recommends it to others, saying that there are “no more Monday morning blues when you've a lovely JG dog to walk and talk to and it’s lovely to feel you are making a difference!” In recent years Brenda has also helped out at fundraising events and has also been a very glamorous hostess at the Jerry Green Christmas Ball which is now in its third year.

She loves seeing how much the dogs enjoy themselves and witnessing this makes her very happy. She has met a lot of lovely people through volunteering and is very proud to be a volunteer. Brenda knows lots of local people and this helps spread the word about the good work Jerry Green does and informs the community about volunteering.

We think Brenda is a fantastic advertisement for volunteering and hope that our relationship continues for many years to come!
