What a wonderful day was had by everyone and their dogs who attended the annual show yesterday. Sunday the 15th proved to be one of the hottest days of the year and we were ready to combat the heat with tempting cool pools, chilled towels and copious amounts of shade. It is at this point we want to thank our supporters, donors, staff and corporate partners for raiding garages, sheds and stores across Lincolnshire for every gazebo, paddling pool and parasol available, they were filled throughout the day with cool, fresh water by our amazing hydration station teams.

We were so pleased you supported our decision to cut the show times by more than 50% to prevent dogs and owners from standing in the sun, Congratulations to our Jerry Green Rescue Dog: Dexter who was awarded Best in Show by one of our longest standing volunteers Ralph. We knew from the first moment we decided that the dogs would prefer treat finding to haybale racing and boy were we right, little Flash has never had such fun.

We would like to say thank you for understanding our care and caution with dogs attending and listening to our advice about keeping dogs cool. Ten of the staff at the event were specially trained K9 first aiders but if needed Lawrence from Ashby Road Veterinary Surgery would have been on call: Thank you Lawrence. Our annual show is so important to us as a charity as it is a brilliant opportunity to meet friends old and new, share our successes and raise much needed funds to continue our important work.

We did consider at one point leading up to the show the possibility of cancelling due to the heat but we were confident in our staffs ability to manage the dogs welfare and ensure their safety was paramount at all times. We are pleased to say that the show was a huge success and want to thank everyone who came along to show their support, please pin your “How to keep a dog cool” fact sheet to your fridge and make sure you enjoy the rest of your summer safely.

We hope to see you again next year!
