(When making or updating your Will you should always seek professional advice)

Making a Will can seem to be a daunting task. Legal jargon and films based on family battles surrounding estates often make it seem that way. In reality, with proper guidance, they’re relatively simple documents with a clear process. Get an idea of how much your estate will be worth, minus any debts, with some clarity on how you’d like it divided and you’re half way there.

You may think about leaving a gift in your Will to a charity very close to your heart. This is fairly common in the UK - “14% of people left a charitable bequest in their Will in 2019, consistent with the previous 3 years” (Smee & Ford 2020, page 6). With so many deserving charitable causes you might be left with the question of ‘who should I pick?’

At Jerry Green Dog Rescue, we believe you should pick a cause that echoes your beliefs and whose vision is one you deem worth fighting for. This may not be just one charity and in fact it’s more common for a Will to contain multiple charitable bequests - “62.5% leave to more than one charity. The highest number of charities named in one will in 2019 was 57” (Smee & Ford 2020, page 3). You should never feel a burden that you may have left a charity out and you certainly don’t need to name 57!

If that charity could be Jerry Green Dog Rescue then please get in touch at [email protected] or 01625 657820 (option 3). A gift in your Will, no matter the size, can help many dogs in need find their happily ever after.

One of the best parts of my job is getting to hear all the different stories of Happy Tails and how Jerry Green has affected your lives since we opened in 1961. Well, that and getting to meet your dogs! Feel free to call me for a cuppa and a chat about how to make your Legacy have a lasting impact on the lives of Jerry Green dogs.

Thinking about the legacy you want to leave is a journey and we’d love to help with any queries you have. Don’t get confused by making a Will. Pick up the phone, give us a call and we’ll be sure to help you out.
